Opening a New Chapter!

I set up this blog nearly one year ago in the exciting weeks after my book's release. I imagined blogging about book signings, visits to Sheridan County, and so forth. Since then, every time I've posted to my other blog http://the-meimeiblog.blogspot.com/, I've been chagrined by the continued existence of this blog, which I never seem to have the time or inclination to update.

I've considered deleting the blog entirely, but always thought I would get around to working on it. And now, it's not so much that I have more time or inclination, but I do have a new project in the works. And this blog may serve a purpose as my co-author and I work on that project.

I'm referring to Sheridan County, to be published by Arcadia Publishing Company http://www.arcadiapublishing.com/index.html in late 2012 or early 2013. Arcadia has over 6,000 titles in print, including serveral on towns or counties in Montana.

I'll be working on Sheridan County with my mom, Helen Stoner, who is already hard at work canvassing her friends, neighbors, and anyone else she encounters (!) in search of historical photos from all of the current and past communities in Sheridan County. We're hoping to be inundated with photos and it occurred to me that some of those that we can't include in the book can be showcased here.

In the meantime, here's a tiny sampler from my own family collection.

My maternal grandparents, Oscar and Sadie Wagnild, from rural Outlook.

My great-uncle Bert Wagnild and his brothers ran a threshing rig in the teens and 1920s.

Welcome to the Red Corner

Thanks for your interest in northeastern Montana's "Red Corner" and for visiting this blog. I set it up as a means of communicating about my book by the same name, which was published by the Montana Historical Society Press in March, 2010.

I hope to post more as soon as I make it through spring term at Berea College, where I teach. Until then, thanks for your visit.
